Engineers Ireland Event: Mortars for our Historic Structures

Fee: Engineers Ireland Members €90 Non-members €120

Date and Venue: 9.30am – 13.00pm. Friday, 4th May 2018, Engineers Ireland, 22 Clyde Road, Ballsbridge, Dublin 4 CPD Credit: 3 hours

Seminar Overview

The mortars in our historic structures are often over looked or not considered closely enough. Yet this material is at the core of most masonry walls and provides its protection from the weather. There has been significant progression in the specification of lime mortars in the last few years and closer replication of our historic mortars is now achievable with indigenous limes. This seminar proposes to discuss the full palette of materials available to us in our choice of mortars, from repairing national monuments to underpinning historic bridges, to advising on re-pointing friable brickwork.
