BLF Conference 2017 Trondheim, Norway

Thursday 7th - Sunday 11th September 2017

Dear BLF Member,
Booking is now open for the 2017 conference being held at Nidaros Cathedral Workshop, Trondheim, Norway
The theme of the conference is Rediscovering Traditional Mortars and will include lectures (in English), visits to the Cathedral and the workshops, and there will be a firing of the workshop lime kiln to create quicklime for the hot-mixed lime mortars used in the cathedral restoration.

Lime Mortar Update OPW and BLFI

Mortar mixes for our Built Heritage, including Hot-mixed Lime mortar and earth mortars

Workshop hosted by OPW Depot Kilkenny

This Event is Now Fully Booked

Note Similar workshops will be run in Autumn 2017 in Killarney and Atheny

The workshops will be of interest to those specifying or working with mortars for the repair of buildings. It will benefit the architect/ mason making the transition into working on heritage structures

Lime Slam 2017

Tuesday 7th February at No.63 Merrion Square, D2

Including: Shane Nolan speaking on; McKee Barracks, terracotta repairs at roof level,  Henry Thompson on; Extensive repairs of a 19th century castellated house in Tipperary. Tom Pollard on; Working at Guédelon, France...and much more!

Richmond Barracks 24th November 2016

The Richmond Barracks is one of the 1916 commemoration projects that the government has invested in for this year’s special celebratory year.
Dublin City Council allocated €3.5 million towards the restoration. This included the Cupola  being brought back to life on the Gymnasium building along with a significant amount of re pointing and masonry repair. The Richmond Barracks was officially opened in May of this year.
The barracks is one of the new tourist-attractions in the Dublin 8 area, joining Kilmainham Courthouse and the new Pearse Lyons Distillery.

The itinerary for Thursday 24th will be:

  • 4.00pm walk / tour
  • 4.45pm Talks by Kevin Blackwood Architect and some of the rest of the project team
  • 5.30pm tea, coffee or a glass of wine and the chance to catch up with your Building Limes Forum Ireland colleagues
  • Finish 7.00pm
